Nourish is a tribute to the power, resilience, and tenderness of Black motherhood—a visual ode to the ways women have nurtured generations despite adversity. The life-size garden of moving orange flowers symbolizes growth, transformation, and the warmth of a mother’s love, ever-flowing and ever-giving. Through this piece, I honor the women who have fed not only their children but entire communities, sustaining culture, wisdom, and strength. Commissioned by Downtown Atlanta for Women’s History Month, Nourish stands as a reminder that the act of care—whether through motherhood, mentorship, or community—has always been at the root of our progress.

I am Chanell Angeli, an Atlanta based artist. I was raised in the Baptist church, attending multiple times per week alongside my grandmother. This experience instilled in me a deep appreciation for faith and the ethereal realm, as well as the profound significance of prayer. As I entered adulthood, I found myself grappling with existential queries, such as our soul's purpose and origin. These ponderings led me to express my confusion through the medium of poetry, floral design and mixed media art. Employing a unique artistic approach combining photography, assemblage, and paint, I aim to evoke a sense of the subjects physically stepping forth from the canvas and create ethereal, whimsical worlds with my floral installations.
