"INGURRABLE 1" explores the seductive illusion of meaning through surface aesthetics. The title itself is a neologism coined by the artist to describe a creative approach that previously lacked a name—a mode of making rooted in phonetic performance and symbolic pageantry rather than literal comprehension. Derived from a portmanteau of the Chinese word for “English” (英语, Yīngyǔ) and “babble,” ingurrable refers to a vocal style in which non-English-speaking performers approximate the sound and emotional tone of American pop and rock music without conveying any real linguistic meaning.
In the work, stylized Asian characters—designed to look significant—float as empty signifiers, their presence suggesting importance while offering none. Sound, gesture, and visual motifs combine to mimic the familiar structures of meaning, yet everything remains hollow by design.
Through this deliberately artificial presentation, "INGURRABLE 1" interrogates our collective desire to assign importance based on tone, posture, and presentation. It asks: How much of what we call "meaning" is just theater? And why are we so eager to believe something is profound simply because it sounds or looks like it is? By separating sense from sensation, the work stages a commentary on language, spectacle, and the human instinct to find meaning—even when there is none to be found.

Inspired by the intrinsic learning achieved by a state of childish “flow” while at play - Mike Stasny often refers to his work as “the same thing I was doing at 4, but on the scale of a 42-year-old”. He is a multi-disciplinary artist, musician, producer and curator from the midwest working and based out of Atlanta for the past 10 years. His primary focus is “creative place making” or “creative space design” in which he activates under-utilized locations with imaginative experiences that activate community in time, culture, the economy, and space. Mike’s current primary focus is MOM SAID IT’S FINE gallery - an ever changing immersive experience of past and present projects acting as an open studio, showroom, and space for creative collaborations in historic Underground Atlanta.
