Organizational Support

The African Film & Arts Foundation Inc., (AFAF) is a 501 c (3) non-profit media arts organization based in Atlanta, Georgia, whose mission is to magnify and celebrate the visions, voices, lives and stories of people from Africa and the African Diaspora through the lens of arts and culture.

Being part of spring boarding multiple homogeneous stories about Africa through mediums like film, arts exhibitions, and cultural events, we provide a platform to promote, showcase and support content/imagery that depicts Africa/African Diaspora in all its brilliance. Through strategic partnerships with diverse community groups, institutions and businesses, the foundation’s premium is on fostering cross-cultural bridges, engendering inspirations, training the next generation in leadership roles in the entertainment industry, professional relationships and enriching experiences that boost our common humanity.

Our goal is partly realized through our signature events; the African Film Festival Atlanta, the first home grown African Film Festival in Georgia which features an impressive lineup of thought-provoking films and engaging panel discussions, hoping to challenge stereotypes, break down cultural barriers, and promote a deeper understanding of African culture and its rich artistic heritage by fostering dialogue and exchange between artists and audiences; Cinema for the Culture, a monthly/quarterly program featuring film screenings and in conversation session with filmmakers from Africa and its diaspora; African Reel Video Blog series showcasing the life’s and talents of people of African descent in the entertainment industry.

At AFAF one of our priority areas is to engage young people, our future leaders, and storytellers, in critical discussions around film and global arts production. In this vein, AFAF has partnered with the African Leadership Academy (ALA) in South Africa, a highly selective Two-Year Pre-University Diploma Program, geared towards young leaders from across Africa, who have the potential to catalyze positive change on the continent. ALA provides their alumni students to intern with us and we in turn train the next generation of Art administrators, filmmakers, cultural curators, graphic designers, writers, web developers and social media managers from the continent and exposing them to the working in a company based stateside. Our future mission is to provide funding to aspiring filmmakers through our Sankofa Film Fund. In summary we are a platform whose goal is to bring to the global stage a new way of visualizing Africa and her diaspora.
