Fatou Bessem

Project Support Grant - Art Exhibition & Artist Talk

Fatou Bessem is an Atlantan born Afro-Surrealist painter. Her works explore Black Femininity and the performance of womanhood through analytical dissections inspired by baroque and religious allegories. Bessem holds a BFA from Georgia State University.

A&E funds will support "The Black Madonna", an interactive celebration and dissection of Black Womanhood through the contemporary lens. The solo exhibit by Fatou Bessem explores the multi-faceted aspects of gender and its racial intersections with a focus on community and connection. The exhibit will feature a surrealist sculpture, performance-art video, and newly created oil paintings, concluding with an artist talk.
